About
Sakura holds a unique distinction among India's Japanese restaurants: it is the country's oldest, having operated since the 1990s at The Metropolitan Hotel & Spa in Connaught Place. The kitchen has been anchored by Japanese Master Chef Tetsu Akahira, who came to India in 2010 after training at Tomikyu in Hiratsuka, Japan. All Japanese products are used; additional chefs are periodically brought from Japan. The restaurant holds formal certification as a Certified Japanese Food Supporter Store by the Embassy of Japan (#008) and participates in Embassy of Japan cuisine events. Sakura has hosted royalty and corporate titans in its sleek, award-winning dining room, presenting kaiseki-inspired menus, sushi and teppanyaki.
