About
Kiraku opened in March 2006 near Ealing Common tube station, steps from the Japanese school that has anchored West London's Japanese expat community for decades. Japanese co-owner and general manager Takeshi Nakamura has guided the restaurant to 11+ consecutive years of Michelin Plate recognition for Good Cooking — an unusual distinction for a neighbourhood restaurant. The lunch menu offers affordable set meals, while evenings shift to an izakaya-style format of sharing plates including tempura, sashimi, grilled dishes and seasonal small plates. Food critic Andy Hayler singled out Kiraku's tempura and mackerel as exceptional by any London standard.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Eleven or more consecutive years of Michelin Plate recognition for Good Cooking — the most consistent Michelin acknowledgment of any outer-London Japanese restaurant.
- Japanese co-owner Takeshi Nakamura has maintained the restaurant's connection to Ealing's Japanese expat community as its primary regular clientele.
- The tempura and grilled mackerel have been singled out by Andy Hayler as of a quality that many Michelin-starred kitchens would struggle to match.
- Affordable set lunches and an evening izakaya format make Kiraku accessible across budgets — a rare combination at Michelin-recognised quality.
