About
Noren — named after the traditional Japanese cloth curtain that hangs in the doorways of restaurants and shops — is an intimate 12-seat counter tucked inside the Chisou restaurant group's Mayfair premises. Opened in 2025, it introduced the makezu (mini hand-roll) format to London, a style of sushi designed to be consumed immediately for maximum freshness. The seasonal menu includes hamachi tataki, chutoro carpaccio and omakase sushi selections, all served by counter chefs in a setting designed to recreate an evening out in Tokyo. A wide-ranging sake list, frequently updated with new producers, sits at the heart of the experience. The space is available for private events.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Noren introduced the makezu (mini hand-roll) sushi format to London — the first restaurant in the city to serve this delicate, Tokyo-native style.
- With just 12 counter seats, the experience is intensely personal — chefs prepare each piece in full view and explain each course in detail.
- A sake list curated by the Chisou team, regularly refreshed with new producers, makes Noren as much a sake education as a sushi experience.
- The venue is available exclusively for private hire, making it one of Mayfair's most distinctive options for special occasions.
Open Thu-Sat only; private hire also available — contact mayfair@chisourestaurant.com
