About
Romeo San opened in May 2025 on Marylebone's George Street, becoming London's first restaurant dedicated exclusively to the temaki hand-roll format. The concept was created by the Le Relais de Venise family — known for their cult Marylebone steak restaurant — with head chef Rodrigo Alonso (ex-Sushi Atelier) leading the kitchen. The 25-seat counter operates on a walk-in basis, with chefs crafting each hand roll to order in full view of diners: warm rice, cool premium fish, crisp nori. Premium ingredients — fatty toro, A5 wagyu, caviar — feature alongside more classical temaki options. The format prioritises immediacy: each roll is served the moment it is made to preserve the textural contrast of warm rice and cold fish.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- London's first dedicated temaki bar — a format that originated in Tokyo — filling a notable gap in the city's Japanese dining landscape.
- Premium ingredients including fatty toro, wagyu and caviar elevate temaki beyond its casual origins into a genuinely luxurious hand-roll experience.
- Rolls are crafted and served immediately, one at a time, to preserve the ideal textural contrast of warm rice and cold fish — a detail rarely maintained outside Japan.
- Walk-in format with no reservations creates a spontaneous, convivial energy that fits naturally into Marylebone's daytime and evening rhythm.
Walk-in only; no reservations accepted
