About
Bar Goto Niban ('niban' meaning 'number two' in Japanese) is the Brooklyn counterpart to Kenta Goto's acclaimed Lower East Side bar, opened in 2021 in Park Slope. The bar faithfully extends the LES original's ethos of precision Japanese-style bartending to Brooklyn, with the same walk-in policy, happy hour martinis, and a full menu of sake, shochu, Japanese whisky, and craft cocktails. A special Shochu Sunday menu curates dedicated shochu and highball selections each week alongside the standard menu. Small plates echo classic izakaya fare. The Park Slope neighborhood provides a slightly more residential, relaxed atmosphere than the LES, making Niban a neighborhood institution in its own right.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Brooklyn gets Kenta Goto's acclaimed Japanese cocktail philosophy — a rare opportunity to drink like you're in a Tokyo neighborhood bar without leaving the borough.
- Shochu Sundays feature a curated weekly shochu and highball menu, making it NYC's finest weekly showcase of this often-overlooked Japanese spirit.
- Walk-in-only policy and relaxed Park Slope setting create a communal, unhurried atmosphere true to Japanese bar culture.
- Happy hour martinis from 5–6 PM daily and a full izakaya small plates menu make it the ideal Park Slope dinner-and-drinks destination.
Walk-in only; no reservations. Closed Mondays.
