About
Hanaya Omakase is a fresh addition to NYC's omakase scene, opened in 2025 at 630 9th Avenue in Hell's Kitchen. Chef Yousi — a Japan-trained, female sushi chef whose 15-year career includes time at Michelin-recognized Sushi Nakazawa — leads the intimate counter experience. The meal is a 13-course Edomae omakase for dinner at $75 per person ($60 for the 11-course lunch) — an exceptional value for the level of training and fish quality on display. Highlights include shaved foie gras, botan ebi, Hokkaido uni, and Spanish mackerel, with fish sourced for seasonality and freshness. BYOB policy keeps the total cost per guest remarkably low. Reservations via Resy.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Chef Yousi trained at Sushi Nakazawa, one of NYC's most acclaimed omakase counters, bringing Michelin-adjacent technique to a $75 meal.
- BYOB policy combined with a $75 dinner price makes Hanaya one of New York's great omakase values — comparable experiences elsewhere cost $150–$250.
- Female-led sushi counter — a rarity in the male-dominated world of Edomae sushi — offering a distinctive and thoughtful perspective.
- Intimate counter setting and personalized service from Chef Yousi herself recreate the one-on-one sushi bar experience.
