About
HOUSE Brooklyn is the New York outpost of Kyoto-born Chef Yuji Tani's globally acclaimed concept, which first launched in Tokyo. Opened on December 1, 2022, the restaurant occupies a serene backroom within the 50 Norman complex — a purpose-built Japanese cultural space designed by architect Jo Nagasaka. Each night, just eight guests are seated at the counter for a nine-course, $180 tasting menu that fuses classical French culinary technique with the minimalist aesthetic sensibility of Kyoto. Dishes shift with the season and are guided by Chef Tani's philosophy of restraint: precise, elegant plates where Japanese ingredients are allowed to speak without excess ornamentation. The experience unfolds over two hours with two seatings per evening, making reservations — released monthly on Resy — highly sought after.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- Chef Yuji Tani's French-Japanese cuisine represents a genuinely rare synthesis — Kyoto culinary philosophy expressed through classical French technique, with no parallel in New York.
- The eight-seat counter format ensures every guest receives the chef's full attention across each of the nine seasonal courses.
- 50 Norman is itself a destination: a Japanese-designed cultural complex housing Tokyo brands making their NYC debut, creating an experience that extends beyond the meal.
- The $180 price point offers exceptional value for a white-tablecloth tasting menu of this caliber and intimacy.
No walk-ins or phone reservations accepted. Reservations released one month in advance at 12:00 PM on Resy.
