About
Kinjo occupies a beautifully converted former torpedo factory in one of DUMBO's oldest industrial buildings, steps from the waterfront. The concept splits the space into two distinct experiences: a serene 14-seat omakase counter led by Chef and Co-Founder Johnny Huang — a 17-year Japanese cuisine veteran who trained at Masa — and a lively cocktail lounge with small plates available for walk-ins. The omakase menu runs 11 courses at $95, featuring seasonal nigiri informed by the Japanese culinary philosophy Huang absorbed during his years at the pinnacle of New York Japanese fine dining. Chef Eddie Lee, formerly of Momofuku, brings additional creative dimension to the bar program. The dual format allows Kinjo to function simultaneously as an intimate high-end sushi experience and an accessible neighborhood bar, with Resy reservations for the omakase and walk-ins welcome at the bar.
Why it's on Washoku Guide
- At $95 for an 11-course omakase, Kinjo offers some of the best value in the NYC omakase market, especially given Chef Johnny Huang's Masa pedigree.
- The historic former torpedo factory setting is one of the most distinctive dining environments in Brooklyn — an atmospheric space with genuine industrial character.
- Walk-in access to the cocktail lounge and small plates makes Kinjo usable as a spontaneous neighborhood bar as well as a destination tasting counter.
- Chef Huang's 17 years in Japanese cuisine, including time at Masa, bring a level of technical refinement to the nigiri that is rare at this price point.
Omakase reservations available via Resy up to 28 days in advance. Walk-ins accepted at the cocktail lounge.
