About
Opened in 2017 by Nathan and Akiyo Lowey, Dosanko draws its identity from Akiyo's Sapporo, Hokkaido roots and the Loweys' commitment to mottainai (no-waste) cooking. The restaurant inhabits Vancouver's historic Japantown at 566 Powell Street, steps from Canada's oldest Japanese language school, and serves as a cultural touchstone for the city's Japanese diaspora. The menu spans Hokkaido yoshoku classics—omurice with demi-glace, zangi fried chicken, Japanese curry, and katsu sandwiches—made with housemade sauces and seasonally inspired ingredients. The intimate 45-seat dining room is known for warmth and community spirit.
