About
Opened in 1977 by Shigeru Hirai as a fish and seafood shop on Powell Street, Fujiya has grown into BC's most beloved Japanese grocery institution. The flagship Clark Drive store moved to its current home at Clark and Venables in 1994, anchoring the city's Japanese-Canadian community for nearly five decades. Customers come for the freshly prepared sushi rolls, chirashi bowls, and hearty bento boxes alongside rows of imported Japanese pantry staples, snacks, and condiments. The deli counter turns out house-made delicacies that are impossible to find elsewhere in the region. With additional locations in Downtown Vancouver, Richmond, Victoria, and beyond, Fujiya remains the gold standard for Japanese grocery and ready-made Japanese food in British Columbia.
