About
Takehiro ('Také') and Kayo Asazu arrived from Japan and built Komé from a farmers' market bento stand in 2006 before opening their brick-and-mortar on Airport Blvd in 2011. In a January 2026 Instagram post, the owners themselves described Komé as 'one of the only places in Austin that is truly Japanese owned' — a distinction that the Austin food community has recognized for over a decade. Také trained at Uchi before striking out independently, and the menu reflects a genuine Japanese sensibility: clean flavors, honest ingredients, and no gimmicks. The Asazu family is the nucleus of Austin's Japanese food ecosystem — also founding Sa-Tén Coffee and Uroko — making Komé the anchor of a remarkable culinary empire. No reservations; first-come, first-served.
