About
Founded in 2003 by Seiko Dailey, who was raised in Osaka where her mother operated a corner store selling okonomiyaki, Maido! has been the Japanese community's culinary home in the Greater Philadelphia area for over two decades. The establishment uniquely combines an authentic Japanese casual kitchen with a curated grocery section stocking imported Japanese ingredients — the only such combination in the region. WHYY documented the restaurant's significance as a community anchor. Visit Philadelphia includes it in its AAPI-owned restaurant guide. The kitchen prepares housemade okonomiyaki, takoyaki, bento boxes, udon, and Japanese curry with the everyday warmth of a neighbourhood market in Osaka.
