About
Kaminari — meaning 'thunder' in Japanese — opened in Parkdale in 2023 in the former Grand Electric space, co-founded by Daiju Matsuura (Japanese; also partner at Imanishi Sando Bar) and Kon Tran. Matsuura's Japanese culinary instincts shape the ramen program: clear (chintan) and creamy (paitan) styles in Tokyo shio or shoyu flavours, all built on a 48-hour chicken broth with zero MSG and no artificial additives. The bar features traditional Junmai sakes imported directly from Japan and Asahi on draft from a Hoshizaki dispenser. The minimalist white-and-natural-wood interior doubles as an audiophile's dream, with a bespoke speaker system and kimono-strip sound panels. Late-night kitchen hours make it one of the few ramen destinations open past midnight in the city.
