About
Tondou traces its roots to the Yokohama Ramen Museum, where its original concept was established in 2001, earning recognition as a standout regional ramen style. The Toronto location opened in 2018 on College Street, making it Canada's first and only Okinawan restaurant. Okinawa soba differs fundamentally from mainland Japanese ramen, using a pork-based broth with distinct spices and wheat noodles that reflect the island's cultural crossroads between Japan, China, and the Pacific. Beyond soba, the menu extends to izakaya-style dishes, rice bowls, and a sake list, complemented by the warm, communal Okinawan hospitality (uchina hospitality) that the owners are proud to deliver. Late-night hours until midnight (1:30 AM Saturday) cater to the College Street dining crowd.
